Camping at Cwmffrwd

Eco-friendly wild camping & accommodation

Tucked away amid towering mountains in the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog Brecon Beacons National Park and nestled within twenty two acres of stunning wildflower meadows, Cwmffrwd Farm's award winning campsite is a back-to-nature paradise for those looking for simple camping in stunning surroundings.

Hosts Pridie and James are advocates of outdoor life and positive environmental change, committed to nurturing the natural biodiversity of this precious landscape and encouraging a reconnection with nature through the sharing of land, skills and stories.

The farm and hayloft are open to visitors all year round. Our main camping season is May Half Term and the school summer holidays. Bookings are taken through our Bedful booking system but get in touch if it looks full or unavailable as we only put a limited number of pitches on the booking system :)

“We need the tonic of wildness... we can never have enough of nature.”
― Henry David Thoreau, Walden: Or, Life in the Woods

The secluded nature of Cwmffrwd Farm sets it aside from more densely populated sites, keeping this beautiful land unspoiled and ensuring it remains a haven for both wildlife and visitors alike.

The wildflower meadow camping pitches are at the heart of the farm and to protect them from the damage of compaction there is a no vehicles policy in the fields, other than campervans driving to their pitches along the bottom. Two grass carparks are located at the entrance to both camping meadows, and kit and equipment can be transported using the wheelbarrows provided.

Amenities are also kept simple to minimise impact on the land, with three compost toilets, one washing up area, one flushing toilet and one electric shower.

Guests are asked to take rubbish home to recycle.

Tent and van pitches are spaciously spread out across the meadows, with an average of seven pitches in each four acre field. Pricing is per person at £10 per adult (16+) and £5 per child (5+). We don't charge extra for dogs. Gazebos are welcome at no extra cost. All vehicles park in the main campsite carpark at the entrance to the field. There are wheelbarrows available to move kit, and if you require assistance then we will certainly help.

Tent pitches are located along the top of the camping fields boasting an epic view down the valley, and van pitches are located along the bottom of the meadows gazing up at the surrounding mountains.

Bell tents are also available for guests who fancy a little bit of luxury. Our beautiful bells tucked away their own three acre mountain meadow and vary in size. Although entirely off-grid, these homely abodes are kitted out with comfort in mind including rugs, cushions, hot water bottles, and your own steel wheel fire-pit. Bell tent guests park in the main campsite carpark and walk up to their pitches. â€‹â€‹There are wheelbarrows available to move kit, and if the 4x4 is home then we will certainly help.

There is limited data signal at the farm, so come prepared to disconnect from modern life! Instead, enjoy frolicking in the meadows, rummaging around in the little outdoor library for books and charts to help you identify the resident birds and mini beasts, or paddle in the stream or see if you can spot any creatures in the alder, willow, hazel and hawthorn that thrive across the site!

It’s 12 minutes drive to  picturesque Crickhowell, and 25 minutes to celebrated book town Hay-on-Wye and bustling market town Brecon. It’s best to stock up on food before you arrive, or shop at local supermarkets in Brecon, Abergavenny or the high street in Crickhowell.
